Me and He

I've done a new LO for the Weekend Warrior Week 2 challenge at CoolScrapsDigital.  The 4th in my 'Remembering When' series, this LO was created using Waite for the Moment Designs Remembering When No. 1 and Wrapped in Memories kits, as well as the new floral shapes from Al Ward's ActionFX site and the provided template from KakleiDesigns.
Fonts: titles--Fabulous 50s; journaling--Footlight MT Light.  Photos ©1954-1969, J. Tillman, all rights reserved.
Journaling reads: 'Buster and Me My baby brother and me.  He was, for most of his life, a child who could crack you up in a heartbeat, make you sob in the next.  All three of us have had some very tragic times, but his time ran out when he was not even 25 yrs old.  i try not to miss him and fail.'

Here is a thumb, and you can see greater detail by clicking the image, or by taking a look at it in any of my galleries (click the buttons at the bottom left of this page).

Hattie Eva: Remember When No. 8

So!  I took up the Heritage Challenge at Ivy Scraps this week.  I had looked at it, and said, Naahhh, but then, as i was looking at a certain kit, i thought, hey, maybe it CAN do this. So. This is what i did...

This layout, uses Waite for the Moment Designs' Remembering When No. 8 kit, and as it appears my great grandmother Lucy is wearing a brooch--perhaps a cameo?--around her neck, i've also added one of the charming, beautifully extracted cameos from Old Lady Designs latest offering, Great Grandma's Cameos.  Here are the previews:

And here is my LO!

Again, click the image to see more detail, particularly the journaling!

In slave times, stars, particularly the North Star, were significant.

Journaling reads:
My father's parents were John and Hattie Eva. They were born in the late 19th century in North Carolina--Both were the direct descendants of slaves.  My father's maternal grandparents, J. Alfred and Lucy, are pictured.  My grandparents moved to Cleveland before my father was born.  My father reports that my grandfather owned and sold real estate in Cleveland, but the census records list him as a common laborer and my grandmother as a housewife.  My grandfather died before my father was a teenager, and my grandmother, my father and my uncle lived with my grandmother's brother, in Ohio, for several years until everyone moved back to Mecklenberg County, NC, where most of the rest of the family lived.  It was not an easy life for any of them.

My grandmother, pictured, and all of her sisters, were educated through high school and beyond.  On the Federal census of the time, you can see that my youngest aunt was in school in her early 20's, living with her mother who owned the house in which they lived.  I am not certain, to this day, how my grandmother earned her living while in NC, but i do know that she drew a social security check, until she died in the early 1970's.

I do not have many pleasant memories or stories about my grandmother.  I hope that she cared for me, but this was not evident-to me--at anytime I lived with her; the depth of our poverty did not help the situation in the least. My most favorite times living with her came as she nurtured all of us in developing our spiritual lives: evening worship, Sabbath church attendance, gatherings of church members at our house--i still appreciate these times.  I also remember that she was always very good about making certain we were healthy.  I spent hours in doctor's offices getting slight curvatures of my spine tended to, eyesight checked and glasses bought, and when i had to have my tonsils out, she was very caring after i came home from the hospital.

I loved my Uncle Jimmy--my father’s brother-but did not see him often.  He and his family, my Aunt LaVera, and cousins Kim, Keith and Kevin, lived way up north in Illinois.  I am still in touch with my cousins.

Creative Team for Old Lady Designs

At the end of May, through June, i met a lot of wonderful digital scrappers at Ivy Scraps. They were all encouraging and welcoming and made me feel at home during the Ivy's Race for Scrapper Gold competition. I did not win 1st place, but i came away with so much more: friends, a scrapping home, a place on the All-Designer creative team, and and invitation to be on the creative team for Old Lady Designs.

Today, I'm showcasing Jordan's Out My Window kit. I love the pastels and the patterns are gentle and lovely. Little touches of nature make a layout pop. Here's a preview:

Click the preview to see more detail.

My LO is "Out My Window at Lake Champlain". We go to the same spot every year, and from my window i can see these things: some of them i don't even have to sit up to see! These were the perfect papers and elements to scrap these scenes:

I loved working with this kit. I think you will too!

Gloria Val Verde's June Changing Ivy challenge template which is still available FREE--get it and USE IT! There are instructions for working with a layered template with the template. This is a fabulous DEAL!
    Fonts used: Decade and Dragonfly.

Thanks so much for looking! Blessings,

    Joyful Noise

I was psyched when the last kits in the Summer Fiesta mega arrived in my mailbox! Beautiful elements and papers in those vibrant summer colors, with themes a little different than the previous ones. The kit is complete and it is delightful! If you want to check it out, click the link above. In the meantime, here's one more layout for you, "Joyful Noise." You will probably recognize my niece. I love scrapping her--and all of them--and i have lots of pictures of her in action!

In this LO, she is with her Sabbath School class and they are making music together, teachers, children, everyone! They are truly having a Music Party with the Creator!

The tag reads: Mt. Calvary SDA Cradle Roll Band 2009.

If you already have summer photos you want to scrap, some from this year or from previous years when you just couldn't find the right kit, try Summer Fiesta! You'll be glad you did!

I'm off to vacation, traveling tomorrow morning. Those of you who will, please request traveling mercies for my partner and i, and a continuation of an unfailing eye upon the young one (okay, okay, 20 isn't that young, is it?) we're leaving at home for the second time! My thanks for those.

Summer Fiesta: July MegaKit at Ivy Scraps!

The kit is not quite ready for public consumption yet, but we are busily working to get some LOs up for you to whet your appetite.  There are several LOs already posted in the Ivy Scraps CT gallery.  Check 'em out.

My LOs for Summer Fiesta, posted at Ivy Scraps (i'll also post in DigiScrapAddicts--DSA, and DigiShopTalk--DST: see links below): be sure to click the image to see more detail. And thanks for looking!

This LO uses the July Mega from the designers of Ivy Scraps, coming soon!  Check back for the link!  This LO also used Gloria ValVerde's July 2009 Template 2, which was a blog freebie and is STILL available if you go there and click the download link; also stitching is from Old Lady Designs 'Out My Window' kit.  All photos ©2010 LLG Denise, all rights reserved. journaling font: Gabriola; wordart font: lima bean
The major journaling reads: The Bells--Dave, Bev, Meagan, and Brad--are family! We often spend holidays together, and often talk about what makes America so--or not so--great.  Sometimes the exchanges can get quite heated, but all is approached in love, and there’s always the pool to cool off.  Today, we were joined by Lenore and Bailey, also very much part of this extended family, as well as 2 of the 3 dogs--Thandie and Phoebe! No mosquitos and no disagreements  today!  Great food--a proper brai!  A Blast! Happy 4th of July! We missed you Brad and Martin!
The tags read (top to bottom): The Bells, Jan, Thandie, with South African signs of home; Hmmm, er'body's back is turned or they are looking down...no pictures today? and Ebony (Bailey), Ivory (Lenore) and Phoebe (in the yellow hat).
I personally think this layout is a little crowded, but i couldn't think what to leave off!  I wanted to play with ALL OF IT!

    Mud Buggy

This LO uses the July Mega from the designers of Ivy Scraps, coming soon!  Check back for the link!  Also inspired by sketch #121 at ScrapbooksEtc. The photo ©2009 LLG Denise, all rights reserved. journaling font: Comic Sans MS
Little strips read: 'Does this bring back memories?' and 'Yes, but prolly not what you expect!'  Major journaling reads: Last year was the first vacation we left our son at home alone.  This is what we found--yes, the dirt represents what most of our lawn looked like! But when i look at this picture, i’m reminded of GZV; some you you may recognize both the initials and why she comes to mind!

    Daylilies

This LO uses the July Mega from the designers of Ivy Scraps, coming soon!  Check back for the link!  Also inspired by sketch #36 at ScrapbooksEtc.The photo ©2010 LLG Denise, all rights reserved. font:  Harrington, title font Mandingo
Journaling reads: My yard is full of daylilies, of every shape, size, color!  Whereever i walk, i see deep reds--almost purple--oranges, yellows--both bright and delicately pale.  Mixed among them are clematis--climbing, herbs that need weeding, irises, poppies, pansies, lamb’s ears, azaleas, daffodiles, peonies, hydrangea and rhododendrons!  Everyday, something new to capture my camera!

Be on the lookout!  This is a great kit!

    Welcome!

Hi! I'm LLG Denise and a member of Ivy Scraps wonderful Creative Team. LLG stands for Lovinlifegurl. Some of you may have seen some of my design work in the past, and that will continue, but for right now, i want to focus on the LO aspect.

As a CT member, i'll make LOs (for newbies, that means "layout", not an abbrieviated "laugh out loud" like i thought when i first started scrapping) that showcase Ivy Scraps designers' kits. I'm confident that you will love their personal use products as much as i do.

Please take a few minutes to visit and look around the Ivy Scraps Forum to discover some of the fun and sometimes whacky activities we get involved in, and also check out the gallery, where you'll find lots of inspiration for your own LOs. To see my previous LOs for Ivy Scraps, go here; from now on, i'll post layouts, and previews of the kits i've used to make them, on this blog, so check back often! On the right side of my blog page (and i hope it stays there as i revise the blog, LOL!) is a way to subscribe.

I am so happy to be a member of this team. Please feel free to leave questions, comments and/or constructive critiques of my work if you'd like. A warning though--I moderate comments, and i won't post anything that is not offered in a wonderful spirit!

Much joy and blessing to you!

    LLG Denise
